Rocking for a Cause Oct. 3rd: Girls Rock and Rule

GRGR graces Washington, D.C., for the second time ever to kick off its 2008 tour on Friday, October 3, at The Red & The Black. The gig pairs some of the baddest, coolest national and New York City-based bands with Washington, D.C.'s finest up-and-coming femmes who give new meaning to the term "chick rock." NYC core tour bands G-Spot, Loki the Grump, RewBee, Marisa Mini & The Underage Hotties (fronted by Washington, D.C. native/rocker Marisa of Grandma's Mini) and America´s Sweetheart join local rockers Tami D'Mar and Curly and The Rocket for a supercharged evening of sonic bliss. The Washington, D.C., show offers audiences an entire evening of awesome music for just $8 -- the admission is a tax-deductible donation and includes raffle tickets for cool prizes and giveaways. Drink specials from our sponsor Fuze, plus a chance for audience members to enter to win their very own Rock Candy guitar from Daisy Rock, add flair to the festivities. Girls Rock & Girls Rule will continue its mission of giving back and supporting the next generation of girls who rock through its ongoing partnership with Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. The Brooklyn, NY-based camp receives a portion of the proceeds from each event.

The Eternal Question:What's Happening Now?

The cold winter months have been a break from gigging for us. We've use the time to attend to details in our life that will give us a solid foundation for another active performance season.

Curly ventured to Costa Rica for the month of January, where she immersed herself in the study of Yoga (she is a passionate practitioner and Teacher) at The Nosara Institute of Yoga. Loose, awake and refreshed, she returned to her drum kit with a newfound passion for her left hand and right foot. With Jon Bonham as her guardian angel, she's been working on her kick drum triplets.

Meanwhile, The Rocket has been refining his unique approach to incorporating slide guitar into his rhythm playing. The slide was amazingly well received in England and inspired us to incorporate a lot more of it into our sound. Revisiting old blues albums from Robert Johnson to Johnny Winter, and the omnipotent Led Zeppelin recordings, The Rocket is creating an aggressive approach to his Duane Allmanesque style that we all know and love.

May sees us back in the streets, clubs, and festivals. It's all on our gig calendar. See you then.

New Year's Eve at The Red and Black

Celebrate NYE 07 like a rock star with us, at our favorite DC music house, The Red and The Black. We're turning the place into our very own house party, where we'll unveil our brand new tune, "Two Sure Ways." And we'll contemplate the future, create chaos, controversy and creative conversation. Come and Be You. Say Cheers.

We're touring the UK this Fall!

London's calling baby! And we're on the bus!

This just in: We've beat out hundreds of other applicants to be selected by CME Artist Services to perform a two-week tour in the UK this October!

We'll be traveling on a band bus run on used vegetable oil (good for an English fish fry!)on a pub, club, school, college, biker venue ridden ride through the urban, rural, island, outlandish, Scottish, Welsh and English capitals of British pub music culture.

These are some of the best "real" venues in the UK world and here's a brief taste of where we'll be:

-Riffs in Swindon where the punters pull down the shutters after midnight, tape the chinks in the doors with gaffer tape and stop the light of elicit enjoyment spilling across the fields to the goat lady's farm;

-The timeless windowless subterranean pub under the Patriot's MC in Wales listening to stories of one legged hang glidering and fishing flies illegally bound with fish steroids to woo the trout of the Severn;

-After hours at the Bell in Bath where the organic herbal remedies extend beyond the cider and the accepted closing time.

And we'll be met by a cornucopia of happy punters in cracking venues eagerly awaiting our arrival. We'll be sharing the journey with Chicago band "Steepwater" and "Banooba" from New York, so there will be much potential for relational bonding and conflict, and music and merriment. The stuff of life.

We'll take a video camera and keep a road diary, which we'll post online so you can take part in the adventure. Details of the tour dates/locations will be posted on our website soon, so spread the word to your UK friends!

Thanks for all of your support and encouragement.This is rock and roll.
